Elsewhere in the world, Europe gets a shot at Secret Agent Clank, and Japan gets to play a Japanese version of God of War: Chains of Olympus. Australia also misses out this week, with a big goose egg in the release department. Cross your fingers for next week!

<title>PSP caught in violent shooting, double murder case</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1562.psp</link>
<description>We've seen a lot of violence surround the PSP, particularly within the past few months. Two more incidents involving the PSP have made media attention. The first involves two teens in Florida arguing over the handheld, when suddenly one of the two, Zachary Robinson, pulled out a gun and started shooting the other teenager. The victim's medical condition has not been released, but the offender has been charged with aggravated battery.

The next case doesn't directly involve the PSP. In fact, police are hoping to track down two stolen units. They might be tied to the brutal murders of French students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez; both men were repeatedly stabbed to death. The two PSPs were stolen around the time of these murders, and the police have released the serial number of one of the units (SO1-0613169-C), hoping to find more information about the killer(s).

It was released to fix issues with the video playback and internet search functionality that went live with firmware 4.00. Did anyone have trouble with firmware 4.00, or is Sony just working diligently to make the PSP a better experience?

<title>Life with Playstation: Bringing content and services to your PS3, PSP</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1555.psp</link>
<description>It seems like Sony is always a day and a half away from taking off and propelling the Playstation 3 and PSP ahead of the competition. More reason to believe this comes today, with Sony's announcement of &quot;Life with Playstation,&quot; which looks to bring mass amounts of content to the Playstation 3, the PSP, and eventually the rest of your living room (HDTV, cell phone, etc.).

The first demoed feature was the weather and news portion of &quot;Life with Playstation,&quot; where one can look at a satellite image of the Earth from their PS3, see live forecasts, and additional news around the world. This functionality would be minimal among PS3 users, who probably would've check their news and weather forecasts from their console each morning, but offers a lot of growing room for Sony, as they plan to launch Playstation Home later this year, and bring even more content to the PS3.

The next service is the once-rumored video store, where users will be able to download and watch various content from their couch. We'll see more information about this service once E3 rolls around, but I'm definitely excited for downloadable HD content. iTunes still doesn't allow HD renting through the computer (Apple TV-only), Netflix downloads won't work on my Mac (too lazy for mail-in), and my PS3 is a high-definition console that should provide such content.

We'll report more as E3 gets closer, but be prepared for a lot of functionality and services. The first targets are the PS3 and PSP, but Sony eventually plans to bring said content to your laptop, HDTV, and even cell phone. Can't wait!

<title>MTV reports: PSP still rocking the subways</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1554.psp</link>
<description>Despite the recent lack of software support, the PSP is still going strong in various areas of the United States, particularly those New York City subways. Stephen Totilo of MTV Multiplayer kept a basic list of the various handhelds seen during his travels in the past year, and surprisingly the PSP topped the list. While the DS has been dominating portable sales here in the US (Japan is a different story altogether), Sony's PSP appears to be the choice handheld for entertainment on subway stations.

One could argue that touchscreen isn't the best form of gaming for shaky train rides, but we'll take this statistic for what it is. The final count for the year? &quot;67 PSPs, 44 DSes, and 6 GBAs,&quot; according to Totilo, between 6/15/07 and 6/15/08.

<title>PSP still on track for ten years, says exec</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1553.psp</link>
<description>With the time Pocket Gamer was able to spend with Sony executive Zeno Colaço, we've learned Sony still has a lot in store for the PSP. He addresses the current PC Playstation Store for the PSP, the recent lack of new releases, and their focus on functionality, such as GPS and the camera. It's very interesting that nobody seems to think the PSP dying off; the PS3 has certainly become a major focus, but the PSP still has a lot of room to grow, especially when Sony keeps bringing up this ten year lifespan.

This isn't the first time we've heard about the PSP's planned future. Previously, John Koller told IGN that the PSP is definitely not dead, and has at least another seven years in it's life (3+7=10). It seems like Sony has a pretty good idea as to where the PSP will be in seven years, with Zeno Colaço adding:

&quot;We definitely have the ambition for it to feature very strongly in the future, both on its own and also complimentary to PlayStation Network environment and the PS3. But we'll have to wait a while before we can fully reveal the direction we're going in. Ten years is certainly the long-term plan though.&quot;

<title>Custom Firmware 4.00 will feature in-XMB recovery, advanced savestate</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1551.psp</link>
<description>It looks like the custom firmwares will continue to expand, with homebrew developer Mathieulh sharing some of the upcoming functionality we can expect in 4.00. According to Mathieulh, CFW 4.00 will feature an in-XMB recovery, which allows modifications to settings straight from the Cross Media Bar (XMB). The second feature involves an advanced savestate feature, which would allow PSP owners (with the custom firmware, of course) to save their UMD game at any point, rather than wait for some form of a save point within the game.

No mention of a release date, or when we might get to try out these new features. Still, it's nice to see homebrew developers working hard to expand the functionality of the PSP. We'll report back when we hear more about CFW 4.00.

<title>Sony releases &quot;PSP theme toolbox,&quot; theme tutorial</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1550.psp</link>
<description>If you've ever wondered how Sony creates those PSP themes we frequently see in the Playstation Store, you're about to find out. Over at the Playstation.Blog, Noel Silvia of the Playstation Store Team has put together a PSP theme tutorial. In order to start creating your own themes, you'll need some form of an image-editing software (e.g. Photoshop), a Windows PC, and the PSP Theme Toolbox (click to download). Continue to follow the directions in the theme tutorial, and you should do just fine.

It's going to take some time to manipulate the images, and put the whole theme together, but in the end it can look like a professional project. And if you think yours rocks, you can upload it to the XMB Themes area of our File Vault.

<title>BioWare looking into PSP development</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1548.psp</link>
<description>Canadian entertainment company BioWare is looking to expand their current Xbox 360/PC development over to the PSP and Wii. While they're most known for their work with the Mass Effect series, they've worked with LucasArts in the past, and releasing Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood soon, an RPG title for the Nintendo DS. BioWare didn't release any additional details, other than entertaining the interest. We'll just have to wait and see what they have in store.

&quot;Yeah, we're looking into Wii and PSP as a company, as well, but nothing's been decided, and nothing's been announced. And we are, from styles of games, we are trying to broaden our portfolio.&quot;

<title>Firmware 4.00 &lt;strike&gt;coming soon&lt;/strike&gt; now available, adds Google to XMB</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1546.psp</link>
<description>So the long-awaited firmware 4.00 seems to be nearing it's official release, but we're told it doesn't include any insane features that many of you were hoping we'd see. Instead Sony is adding Google search to the XMB, under Networking. They've also added the ability to speed up and slow down during video playback.

It doesn't look like we're getting the flash support, copy and paste, or any of the other features we speculated about. Sony needs to start picking up the PSP and taking it to the next level.

Update: Firmware 4.00 is now available through the Network Update. The official changelog can be found below.

[Internet Search] has been added as a feature under [Network].
You can now change viewing speed during video playback by pressing the Up and Down buttons. Use this feature if you want to watch a video quickly, or if you want to slow down playback and listen to the dialogue carefully.

<title>Sony raises Playstation Store prices on some titles</title>
<link>http://psp-vault.com/Article1543.psp</link>
<description>I'm not sure what the strategy behind Sony's latest move is, but they seem to be bumping up the prices for several PSP titles in the Playstation Store. Gamasutra analyzed the current pricing with previous prices, and found that many games have gone up in price, some as low as a dollar, with others going up five dollars or more. Sony hasn't made any official announcement regarding these price changes, but they seem to be a bit more than inflation. Check the list below for titles that have gone up in price.

Raised prices:

Gangs of London $11.99 up to $22.99 (+$11)
Kingdom of Paradise $10.99 to $16.99 (+$6)
Ape Escape: On the Loose $9.99 to $15.99 (+$6)
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee $10.99 to $15.99 (+$5)
WipeOut Pure $10.99 up to $15.99 (+$5)

Twisted Metal: Head-On PSP $14.99 to $15.99 (+$1)
